SOPHIE CASTONGUAY

Sophie Castonguay's work has been shown in several artist-run centers throughout Québec (Dazibao, Dare Dare, AXENEO7, Praxis, Langage Plus, L’Œil de poisson, Skol, Clark), in Toronto (Fado Performance Center) and in Europe (FIAC in Paris, Projektraum M54 in Basel). She is currently pursuing her PhD in Art Theory and Practice at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Castonguay is interested in the various ways art discourse is articulated, the habitus of the viewer, the collective gaze, the sharing of views, and commentary as a gesture in the coproduction of the work. Through the creation of visual devices (painting, photography, video, installation) that she uses in her performances, she attempts to draw links between creative gesture as a statement, and interpretive activity as a gesture of coproduction in the work. As such, Castonguay works in the space between the tangible and projected image. She lives and works in Montréal.
